aesthetics is for art what ornithology is for the birds

3.2009

A bird lying on the pages of a book is pecking calmly at the seeds. Suddenly two hands close the book and crush the animal.

This illustration is inspired by the quote of the American artist Barnett Newman: “aesthetics is for art what ornithology is for the birds.”

The bird represents the artist, whereas the hands and the book represent art criticism.

This illustration was annexed to the article “ In Defense of the Philosophy of Art ”, on the blog of “Proximity Magazine”.
